I've got an Orbi Router in AP mode with the cable plugged into a network port not WAN and everything works just fine however I've got the solid magenta light on top.
I don't know why that would matter. My Orbi is in AP mode, and the Yellow Internet port is connected to a Ubiquiti switch, which is then connected to my router. I saw that and tested it with no joy, will give that a go again tonight and see if it actually works this time.
This could be the issue. Managed switched have additional features that maybe enabled or inhibiting full access. To test this, directly conenct the Orbi AP mode router to the main host router directly and see the LED remains or fully got out. If so, then something in the managed switch is keeping the Orbi router from fully connecting with data services with the main host router.
Have a non managed switch to test with? A non managed switch is more like a dumb switch, just data all data to where it needs to go with out any filters or configurations. You might review any support information regarding your model switch to see if there is anything that can be disabled on this switch that would interfere with normal network traffic.
Yup I've got a couple to test with just didnt see anything in the logging on the switch so kind of ruled it out until today thank you! Well that was uhh X and this was pulling the usual X from the Orbi. Screw around with it trying to figure out how to make these things DHCP from my router to the point I just give up on Ethernet backhaul.
I disconnected the physical network rebooted and all is working; just not the way I wanted LOL. Set it up with out doing any back haul first. This topic has been closed to new posts due to inactivity.

When I login to the router, every parameter looks OK. The router is in Access Point mode and has received an IP address from my cable box. The satellite doesn't seem to have any problem ring light is off.
The wifi connection also works fine. What does solid magenta on the router mean? The Netgear FAQ only mentiones solid magenta for the satellite. Small addition: I just checked the Advanced settings of the router. My orbi router is in Access Point mode however and has received an IP address from my cable box. Also the orbi wifi internet connection works fine, so there is traffic going between the cable box and the orbi WAN port.
Recently introduced sofware bug? Until a few days ago the ring light used to go off, as in 'working normally'. I had the same thing happen once on the previous firmware release after nearly two weeks of uptimewaiting to see if it will trigger on the latest release.
I couldn't even reach the web UI when it happened, the router was unpingable despite passing WAN traffic like you, in AP mode with no issue. Very odd. I tried going back to 1. System seems to work ok, but annoying magenta ring glowing away! Have you tried on. Thanks for the response. I am back on. But it also killed the throughput.Thank you for taking the time to respond. My Netgear Orbi is now running without the solid Magenta light problem, so this problem is really solved with firmware 1. View solution in original post. You may want to move the satellite closer as it could be dropping out because its on the edge of signal but it should shut off after the reconnect but if not the only way to do it is how you are with the reset.
Also when the Satellite after some days turns magenta it reconnects to the Router and the internet connection is stable again. If you have a android phone you can download out app Netgear wifi analytics this will let you see all the wifi in the area and what channels that it is on.
There are other apps out there that can do this as well. And the light should turn off soon as it reconnects so there is a issue with that. Currently the light of the Satellite is off and I see that the Orbi is using channel 13 with no other wifi signal on this channel and channel 36 also with no other wifi signal on this channel. I do not know when exactly the problem occurs, but I will do the test again, when the light is burning magenta.
How and what should I log for several days, so that we can see what happens before the magenta light is switched on? When the magenta lght is burning, even when the connection is OK again, the magenta light stays burning. Having the same issue and have spoken to support with no resolution. Transfer speed is Mbps. Replaces 2 R bridged routers that provided Mbps at same locations. Have had to reboot the bridged R weekly for 3 years, so happy to retire them.
I still do not know what is causing the Orbi Satellite to turn Magenta, because it is not on a fixed moment. Every time the Magenta light stays burning after it has happened, also after the connection is back again and the Satellite is functioning OK. I have never seen it actual happen, but I only know when I see the Orbi Satellite burning Magenta that it has happened during the last period I have looked.
Interestingly, I had my Orbi router in AP mode go magenta a few days ago after being up for weeks without issue. It stayed that way for about 3 days straight, though Internet connectivity was fine and continued as normal. The only obvious sign of an issue other than the magenta indicator was the inability to ping or communicate directly with the router at all, so I couldn't examine the log to see what happened. Yes Rodney, that looks the same issue as what I am having and which repeats days after days after resetting the Satellite.
Were you able to ping or interrogate via web interface the satellite while it was in the "hung magenta" state? Logs show an Internet 'disconnect' just after midnight, yet router will continue to route Internet traffic without issue.
I was able to reboot via web UI and all was well after. I've now enabled debug logging at boot. This is definitely a bug related to uptime, likely overflowing a bit int somewhere. In fairness, even Cisco enterprise-class devices have had similar bugs in the past. Ran fine for a couple of weeks on 1. All devices were pingable and accessible. However, unlike the other posters, I was not able to access the router via IPv4 address. I did not attempt IPv6 address like Rodney recommended but will try that next time it happens.
I was only looking at the Satellite, because that was my problem, and the light of the Satellite did not burn Magenta for several week. But you report triggered me to look at the Router and I found the light of the Router burning Magenta.
